Actually, coyotes don't live in packs. They form a 'family' unit, where a pair of adults will raise their pups but when the pups are grown, the adult pair runs them off to find their own territories. Right now -August and September, is the time when the parents break up the family unit and force their pups out.

It's also why the idiots who 'shoot coyotes' are merely increasing their numbers. When the idiot shoots a coyote, it's usually the adult coyote who 'owns' the territory, so by taking the adult out, the shooter is merely opening up opportunities for the younger coyotes to move in.

They are beneficial in that they do eat a LOT of rodents, as well as rabbits. And cats. SO if you don't want your cat to be eaten by a coyote (I love cats, have had them all my life. They stay indoors.) don't let it roam!
