The 2022 Washington State Legislature debated the ability for a pregnant individual to access abortion care with Engrossed House Bill 1851.

The Affirm Washington Abortion Access Act reconfirms that nurse practitioners and physician assistants can provide abortion services. Like Substitute Senate Bill 5765, reported about here on Wednesday, this bill also put gender-neutral language into the law.

The House heard the bill on the floor on February 11. The bill passed the House 55-40 on February 11, then moved over to the Senate, where it was debated on March 1.

The Senate passed the bill with amendments on March 1 by a vote of 28-21, then moved back over to the House to see if Representatives would concur with the Senate amendments. The House concurred with Senate Amendments by a vote of 57-41.

Governor Jay Inslee signed the bill into law on March 17.
