The Griffin School District shared updates on its partnership with the Olympia School District (OSD) for its Class of 2027.
Griffin School District Principal Erin Hagen led the presentation on the partnership between the two districts, stating that Griffin has 67 students in the Class of 2027 cohort at OSD.
“We have 67 students in the class of 2027. Ninety percent of them are on track to graduate … the seven students who are credit deficient are only slightly deficient — four are only behind one credit, and three are behind half credit and have a possibility of graduating,” Hagen said.
A total of 93.9% of the cohort of Griffin graduates continue their studies at Capital High School, while 6.1% proceed to Olympia High School.
A graduation cohort is a group of students who studied a grade together—students who enrolled after the ninth grade are added while students who transfer out are removed.
For the current year, 2024, Griffin’s graduation cohort has a 100% graduation rate and a total of 54 students in the cohort, without counting the transfers.
The adjusted cohort total is 49, accounting for all the transfers — zero dropouts, five students who transferred out, and 49 graduated students.
Hagen also shared the demographic trend of the current cohort in terms of special programs, race, and gender.
A total of 20.4% of the current cohort are students identified as low-income, while special education, homeless and students with medical conditions accounted for 4.1% each. A total of 2% of the cohort are multilingual students.
Griffin students identified themselves as white (77.6%), Asian (8.2%), Hispanic/Latino (6.1%), with two or more races (6.1%) or Black/African American (2%) — no students in the cohort identified as American Indian, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian.
For gender, 53.1% of the graduating cohort are female, 44.9% are male and 2.0% are nonbinary.
The meeting also tackled the current cohort’s lowest, highest and average scores in English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics and SAT.
For the 10th grade smarter balanced assessment for ELA, the average score was 2,623, with a low of 2,480 and a high of 2,790.
For the 10th grade smarter balanced assessment for mathematics, the average score was 2,630, with a low of 2,118 and a high of 2,846.
The average for the SAT was 1,228, with a low of 1,090 and a high of 1,410.
A total of 44.9% of the 2027 cohort earned a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher, while 8.2% earned a cumulative GPA of 4.0, bringing the average cumulative GPA of the cohort to 3.22.
Aside from high school diplomas, Griffin students also earned three International Baccalaureate (IB) diplomas and five associate degrees.
