The Sage Connection

Anything that makes me laugh is good for my soul

Odds and ends…

May has finally arrived, after a very drippy April, and I am anxious to see what pops up in our garden. We have finally put our mini greenhouses together and placed them over the vegetables/plants the chickens prefer. Last year they got more than we did, so we hope to outfox them this growing season.

Bella Rose, the incredibly smart Border Collie, along with her best friend next door, Luna Sunshine, love to play together. For a while, they were content to run alongside each other on their respective sides of the fence separating our yards.

But after a while, one or the other of the puppies started digging under the fence. Soon they were spotted frolicking together on (for Bella Rose) the wrong side of the fence. We now remain ever on guard around the fence.

In case you were wondering, Prairie, my soon-to-be five-year-old great-granddaughter, helped name both of the puppies – and reminds us to call them by their proper full names.

She has also named all the chickens.  Her imagination knows no bounds. Interestingly enough, she doesn’t name her dolls or stuffed animals.  But she has all the animals down pat.

Speaking of the chickens, they finally started paying for their keep last month. After taking most of the winter off, eggs are now being produced at an almost alarming rate.

The trees are blooming, so I am keeping the local pharmacies afloat with my purchases of allergy relief.

Next month, more great-grandchildren will arrive to spend most of the summer with us. These kids are a little older, so plans need to be made to entertain them while the parents work.

After almost five years of searching for internet that actually works out here, north of Olympia, we are now connected to Starlink, another money-making opportunity for Elon Musk. I can now use the Roku I purchased last year.

I love the shows on BritBox and Acorn TV, especially mysteries without gore. The rest of the family is into gore, and occasionally I join them for a series. When the gore arrives, I just slip my ever-handy blanket over my head until I get the all-clear.

Social media helps me keep in touch with old and new friends. I enjoy chatting with high school friends, members of Rotary and Lioness Clubs I have belonged to, former employers and co-workers from all the places I have lived.

One former employer has become a prolific author and has published several books, all of which she has been kind enough to send to me in their electronic form.

Social media also makes me laugh out loud often. For instance, an ad has been running for a while now that says, “Can’t afford to get teeth implants? Come to Turkey, where implants are affordable!”

Hello. If I could afford to go to Turkey, I could afford to have implants here. Another one I really enjoyed was a rabbit lying on a couch while a psychiatrist sits next to him taking notes. The rabbit says, “I don’t know where the eggs come from and I don’t know why I hide them.”

Actually, anything that makes me laugh is good for my soul. And so are things that make me wonder…like why my great-granddaughter, who often asks to paint my nails, only does one hand and then announces that’s all I need.

Or why people ask me what I think we should do about a certain subject and then tell me why we can’t.
