Artesian women clinch club's first-ever championship in Salem

The Oly Town Artesians find themselves in their first ever Premier League Championship as the women won in the Northwest Premier League 3-0 last weekend against the Vancouver Victory.

“The club has never had a Championship Title Shot whether its men’s or women’s or arena or outdoor premier leagues. It’s the club's time to win and take a title back to Olympia and the state of Washington” said Women’s Head Coach Matt Herrera.

The Artesians were founded in 2014, originally as the Tumwater Pioneers and has competed in both men’s and women’s arena league as well as premier outdoor leagues against teams across Washington and Oregon. The women winning Saturday secured their 2nd place seed in the Northwest Premier League Championship in the club’s inaugural year.

The match is set for 11:00AM Saturday at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon which is home to 1st Place Seeded Capital Atletico who has beat Oly Town twice during regular season meetings.

“We will be traveling our broadcast team and hopefully a group of Oly Town Die Hard Supporters to cover the women’s Championship in Salem” said Partnerships Director Ryan Perkins. “It’s also a unique opportunity to catch the men Friday night against Capital FC at 7PM in Salem too. Stay the night and cheer on the women in the morning for the clubs first Championship. It truly doesn’t get any better than that.”

The Oly Town Women are led by Captain Delaney Smith and top goal scorers this season Chelsie Still and Brooke Streeter (both with 4 goals) along with solid goalkeeping from Olivia Brock who secured a crucial shutout against Vancouver last Saturday.

The Oly Town Artesians also picked up their first USL League Two win in the clubs history when the men defeated PDX FC at home last Saturday 2-1 with big performances from Sebastian Navarro, Tony Andoyan and Sawyer Price. Navarro opened the game with a 25 yard strike that lasered into the far right upper corner meanwhile Andoyan was a workhorse moving the ball up and down the field and creating countless, dangerous opportunities. Sawyer Price at goalkeeper made a handful of crucial saves to keep PDX at bay.

“It was a high energy, positive day for the men last Saturday” said Head USL2 Coach Jason Smith. “We continue to compete every game and we are on a roll now with a tie and a win in the last two games as we head into Capital FC for a good road test.”

The USL2 Men play in Salem 7PM Friday night in a grudge match against Capital who defeated the Artesians 3-2 to open league play back on May 21st. The Artesians can move up in standings with a road win before returning home to Olympia on Sunday at 2PM against OVF Alliance.

“Two games for the USL2 men to move up a few spots in the group bracket with a game Friday away and Sunday at home. We hope the fans get real loud on Sunday and come away with two wins this weekend” said Perkins.
