After a year of canceled theater performances, the BigShowCity Performing Arts Organization is opening its auditions for its planned in-person event with The Lord Franzannian Royal Olympian Spectacular Vaudeville Show.

What exactly is a Vaudeville show? Traditionally, these types of performances were popular in the U.S. around the 20th century and involved, “a series of unrelated acts performed in rapid succession.” Examples of these performances include; acrobats, dancers, jugglers, puppeteers, storytellers, singers, actors, magicians, and comedians.

For the event, BigShowCity is looking for talented performers who can share two to six-minute acts that are “audience worthy” whether it might be funny, skillful, daring or even weird.  Performers are invited to showcase their talent on Saturday, September 18, 2 p.m. at the Olympia Family Theater - 612 4th Ave E. Olympia, WA 98501. The event will run from October 15-17 2021.

Organizers are requiring all performers to present proof of vaccination. In addition, those who will be chosen to be a part of the show will also receive a stipend.

The theater organization was founded in 2001. For the first few years, the group initially hosted a multi-day performance festival in downtown Olympia. Then in 2004, the organization decided to focus on live performance arts such as circus arts, burlesque, dancers, puppeteers, and other acts. By 2007, the BigShowCity hosted its first Lord Franzannian Royal Olympian Spectacular Vaudeville Show which had since become an annual event.  Click here for more information.

For this year’s auditions the show’s producer, Elizabeth Lord, encourages everyone to “get creative.” Lord also shared a quick tip for those who are interested to join, “At the audition, show us your act, or even just tell us all about your idea for an act.” She added, “Remember, even if your act isn't fully formed and rehearsed, we still have another few weeks to get it up to speed. Go for it! Take a chance.”
