Police arrested a transient Olympia man they described as a “violent chronic problem offender” after he allegedly stole corndogs from a local store.
According to Olympia police, Kenneth Michael Stenek, 36, was arrested last Sun., Jan. 9, after a reported theft at the Marina Shell along State Avenue.
A store employee said Stenek was with a woman in a hot pink sweatshirt and a man carrying a plain blue blanket during the alleged theft, while the suspect had a Seahawks blanket.
A responding police officer reported he “immediately recognized” one of the suspects as Stenek, who “commits constant crimes such as theft, trespassing, disorderly behavior, threats, and assaults, including assaults against police, and acts as if he is immune to the criminal justice system.”
Police report that the employee told them that she asked Stenek’s male companion to leave because he wasn’t wearing a mask.
“One guy carrying the plain blue blanket went to grab a corndog and I had already asked him to leave,” she said. “I hadn’t noticed until after they left that two of the corndogs were gone.”
The employee said she believed that it was Stenek who stole the corndogs, each worth $1.19.
“He (Stenek) actually told me outside, he goes, ‘He (his companion) didn’t take them, I did,” she said.
Authorities confirmed that Stenek was trespassed from Marina Shell for theft on Dec. 23, 2021. The employee said she was not aware that the suspect had been trespassed.
Several police officers were called to the scene prior to Stenek’s arrest due to his history of being violent.
The suspect was handcuffed without incident.
En route to jail, Stenek told police, “You dumb motherf*cker, you can’t arrest me for burglary for stealing that corndog. You are f*cking stupid!”
The suspect was booked at the Thurston County Jail for commercial burglary.
