Darcy Huffman is the new Olympia School District Board of Directors vice president after a unanimous vote from the board members  during the board meeting last night.

Huffman will hold the vice presidency role until December, when the board goes through its annual reorganization.

“I want to thank my fellow board members for their confidence and electing me as vice president. I am so stoked that Justin [McKaughan] will be around for a while and will help me through this transition.” Huffman said. “I'm looking forward to this leadership position,”

OSD Board of Directors president Maria Flores opened the nomination for the vice president position as director McKaughan announced his resignation from his position June 22, 2022.

McKaughan also resigned from the board of directors in District 2. His resignation will take effect on Aug. 31.

Flores said the board would follow the OSD Board Policies 1115 to fill the vacancy.

“Per policy, if there is a board vacancy, the remaining board members shall fill such vacancy by appointment,” Flores said, adding they will start receiving applications from qualified persons after proper public notice.

The board will have 90 days to fill the seat when vacated by McKaughan.

Flores added that the board is currently in the planning phase of the recruitment process.

“More information about board director search and how to apply for the position will be shared on the OSD website when available.”
