Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies responded to reports of a stolen Hyundai seen in the Rochester/Grand Mound area on Wednesday, December 27.
The vehicle stopped at the intersection of 178th Avenue SW and Jordan Street SW in Rochester as responding deputies made their way to the scene.
TCSO shared their patrol vehicles’ dash cam footage in a social media post, showing the incident when their deputies arrived.
The deputies strategically positioned their patrol vehicle and activated their law enforcement lights.
However, as the stolen car attempted to flee, it reversed, turning its wheels towards the patrol vehicle.
The stolen vehicle struck the patrol car, with the deputy narrowly escaping harm by retreating into his vehicle.
The assailant continued attempting to evade law enforcement, striking the driver's side of the patrol vehicle, and forcing the deputy further into the car. Pursuit was then “authorized for Assault 2nd degree.”
The responding deputies pursued the fleeing vehicle and ended on Interstate 5 near the Scatter Creek Rest Area, where authorities arrested the suspect.
The driver was arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail for second degree assault.
“The deputy was treated at St. Peter’s Emergency room for minor injuries and released,” TCSO stated.

Strategically placed? Maybe by two-year-olds. That was not even close to be setup for a felony stop. TCSO at its finest.
