DUI from west Olympia to Tumwater to Lacey

An alleged hit-and-run driver was also cited for driving under the influence after a witness to the collision photographed Adams’ license plate and provided it to Tumwater Police on Tuesday.

Andrew Adams, 29, allegedly committed a hit-and-run accident when colliding with Ashlee Erixson’s vehicle at 11 p.m. on May 18 at the intersection of Custer Way SW and Capitol Blvd S.

Erixson told Tumwater Police that while waiting to turn left at the light, she felt her “whole car shake.” She pulled out of the intersection, parked and got out of her vehicle to witness Adams’ car, which had hit her, speed off. A witness behind Adams’ vehicle during the collision managed to take a photograph of Adams’ license plate.

Tumwater police coordinated with Lacey police, which responded to Adams’ residential address and when Adams’ arrived at his home, waited with Adams until Tumwater police could arrive for contact.

Adams admitted to officers that he had been in a collision but stated that the other vehicle had pulled in front of him and he had “slammed on his brakes” and hit the other vehicle. He stated that he had barely hit the vehicle and did not think he “did much damage.”

While contacting Adams, the officer noted in his report that Adams’ eyes were watery and bloodshot. The officer noted that he could smell intoxicants through Adams’ mask, despite both of them standing in “open air.” Adams also appeared “unsteady on his feet” and was “rocking back and forth.”

Adams admitted to having one beer at the west Olympia restaurant where he works, which is 4 miles from the accident scene and 13 miles from his residence. According to the police report, Adams failed the field sobriety tests, and blew a .133 on the Draeger breathalyzer test.

Adams was arrested for driving under the influence and a hit & run attended and released.
