Evergreen women’s basketball team extends win streak to five

Posted

The winning momentum continued to swing in favor of The Evergreen State College (TESC) women’s basketball team with two more victories at the Constantino Recreation Center in Olympia.

The Geoducks kicked off the weekend by beating Bushnell University 70-47 on Feb. 15, as part of their celebration of Senior Night. The Geoducks followed that up with a 64-53 win over Corban University on Feb. 16.

The team improved to 8-12 with the wins and are two places away from a 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) playoff ticket.

Their playoff hopes will be decided on the final weekend of conference play, as the Geoducks travel to the College of Idaho on Feb. 21 and to Eastern Oregon University on Feb. 22 in must-win games.

 TESC 70, Bushnell 47

In a sending off for the team’s seniors, who had been instrumental for the team’s foundation, it was apt that the seniors led the Geoducks to a 70-47 win over higher-ranked Bushnell University at home.

Sydney VanNess led the scoring with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Jalyn Sackrider added 15 points and nine rebounds. Mikail Montez had 10 points and eight boards.

The three senior players, who have been vital for the Geoducks winning, were celebrated along with five other seniors before the game.

 TESC 64, Corban 53

A day after Senior’s Night, Montez delivered again with 15 points in a 64-53 win over Corban. The win marked the fifth in a row for the Geoducks.

After a slow start in the first quarter, Evergreen pulled away with an 8-0 run in the final minutes of the second quarter to establish a wide lead by halftime.

There was no looking back after that for the Geoducks, who built the lead up to 14 in the final quarter before sealing the win.

Another breakout player who contributed to this win was junior guard Kadance Blankers, who had a season high 11 points off the bench in nine minutes of playing time.
