The Evergreen State College men’s basketball team snapped a 14-game Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) losing streak with an 83-79 win over Warner Pacific University at Portland on Feb. 8.
That was their first road win and second win overall in the current Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) season, with their last conference win coming on Dec. 10, 2024, when the Geoducks beat Northwest University 85-79 in Olympia.
The Geoducks were led by a dynamic pair of junior hoopers, with guard Zach Jefferson pacing the offense with a season high 22 points, while big man Solomon Campbell posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Bradley Graham also chipped in 16 points, while Nathan Behr scored 13 points coming off the bench.
But it wasn’t all a smooth ride for the Geoducks, who survived eight lead changes. After the hard-fought opening minutes, the Knights almost got away as they built a 12-point advantage with four minutes left in the opening half.
The Geoducks then found a way out of the hole with a 12-1 run to gain a 45-44 advantage right before halftime.
The second half featured several lead changes with the score ending up knotted at 66-66 with seven minutes left in the game.
The Geoducks then went on an 11-0 run behind the shooting of Bradley along with points from the charity stripe, as they prevented the Knights from scoring for a solid five minutes.
The Knights tried to come back from the 11-point hole, but all they did was trim the Evergreen lead. Free throws from Jefferson sealed the deal in the final 30 seconds.
The Geoducks improved to a 2-16 and sit at the bottom of the conference standings.
