The best student-athletes in indoor track and field events from Saint Martin’s University delivered standout performances at the 2025 Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships at The Podium in Spokane on Feb. 17-18.
Leading the Saints was Jocelyn Saribay, who was crowned the GNAC champion in the women’s weight throw and the first athlete in Saint Martin’s history to win in the event.
The senior, who hails from Waipahu, Hawaii, hurled a throw of 16.08 meters, besting 16 other student-athletes from various GNAC schools.
Apart from the women’s weight throw, she also placed fourth in the women’s shotput after launching the shot at a season best of 12.33 meters.
She is looking forward to competing in her last year as a Saint in the outdoor season and hopes to bring home more hardware this spring.
“Right before I started warmups, I walked up to the girl who was in charge of distributing the medals and asked her if I could just see the women's weight throw gold medal and I told her I'd be back for it after the event," Saribay said.
"I'm so glad I was able to make history and just take home that win in my last ever indoor championship. I still can't believe it myself."
Joining Saribay as one of the medalists for the Saints was Makhi Odoms, who took home the silver medal for a personal best of 14.17 meters in the men’s triple jump. The freshman also finished sixth place in the long jump after a personal best of 6.79 meters.
Another podium finisher for the Saints was Ryan Doidge after his silver medal for clearing a personal best of 4.65 meters in the men’s pole vault. The junior pole vaulter also posted the second-best height in school history.
Alyssa Duncan also finished fifth in the women’s triple jump after the junior covered a 11.22 meters, while Samuel Gray finished sixth in both the men’s 60- and 200-meter runs.
The distance medley quartet of Kainalu Pagente, Samuel Gray, Timmy Higgins and Elijah Dale also finished strong, as they placed fifth after covering the distance in 10:33.75.
The Saints contingent finished with a total of 12 athletes breaking their personal records and another two season bests.
The men’s team scored 35 points and ended up taking seventh place overall while the women's team earned 23 points leaving them at a tie for eighth.
