During the 2022 Washington State Legislature, lawmakers debated Senate Bill 5909, which concerned oversight of the gubernatorial powers for emergency proclamations such as the COVID-19 emergency.

The bill was debated in the Senate on February 15. The Senate’s Democratic majority passed the bill 29-20 on February 15. On March 3, the House started to debate the bill.

The House Democratic majority decided to pull the bill from the floor and it did not get voted on during the rest of the 2022 session. The state still is under COVID-19 emergency powers for Governor Inslee.
