Keep your pets safe on Halloween

Animal Services offers tips on animal safety

Animal Services is reminding pet owners and the public to keep an eye out for their animals’ safety during Halloween.

The welfare group offered several tips and reminders to help pets cope on the day, explaining that while Halloween can be fun for humans, “it can also be stressful for pets when masked trick-or-treaters come knocking at the door.”

Treats should also be kept away from pets’ reach, Animal Services said in its press release, since several foods can be toxic to dogs, such as chocolate, raisins, and some artificial sweeteners.

Pet costumes must also be checked for safety, and pets must have their ID tags when trick-or-treating with their fur-family “because even big dogs can be ‘fraidy-cats.”

Decorations must also be considered, with Animal Services pointing out that fake spiderwebs can entangle birds that fly into them.

“Let’s make Halloween safe and fun for everyone,” they reminded.
