During the Lacey City Council meeting on Thu., Oct. 21,  the city shared its plan to invest in building infrastructure to enable it to charge its fleet of electric vehicles.

“This is somewhat exciting,” Spence shared as he discussed the city’s proposed investments during a budget presentation on Thu., Oct. 21. The city manager shared that major manufacturing companies, like Ford, are starting to convert majority of their production to electric vehicles.

With the increasing demand for electric vehicles, Spence believed that it is important for Lacey to invest in infrastructure that can support an entire electric fleet. He shared that the city had provide $43,692 to make the necessary purchase.

The investment will accommodate the city’s Public Works vehicles which currently use Ford’s F-150 models. Spence believed that building the necessary infrastructure can help prepare the city to assess and learn more about operating this type of automobiles. “So we could experience in some real-life day-to-day, working with electric vehicles,” the city manager shared.

Just last month, the city also passed Ordinance 1598 which provides the guidelines for building an electric vehicle infrastructure. In addition to their climate initiatives, the city also allocated $260,000 to fund its Climate Action Plan programs.
