Local theater group to reveal plans for new performance building

Tenino Young-at-Heart Theater (TYT) will unveil its plans for its community theater building on Saturday, September 10, at 2 p.m. at the building site on Sussex Avenue between Keithahn and Ritter Streets, Tenino.

“Thanks to the donation of a generous supporter in 2021,” said the group’s press release, “TYT was able to purchase land in the Tenino Creative District for the purpose of building a permanent home.”

The celebration will reveal the design of the new building that will be the venue of the 33-year-old group’s future performances, which so far have been held at Tenino High School’s gymnasium, TYT Treasurer Jenny Hall told The JOLT.

“We've got some architectural design of our dreams,” said Hall.

Hall said that the future building could also serve as a venue for other events such as art shows, concerts, and large gatherings, adding that it will be “a community facility that focuses on supporting performing arts and other arts.”

The unveiling will feature music, theater games, face painting, songs, and short play readings, as well as a silent auction and raffle whose proceeds will go to the building efforts.

“It is TYT’s dream to create a facility that will become a cornerstone for events in the region,” the troupe said.

Editors' Note: An earlier version of this story said that the event was for groundbreaking the site when it is actually a showcase of the proposed building design. The JOLT apologizes for this error.
