A South Thurston County man was charged June 25 with the rape of a child in the second degree by the Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office following an investigation regarding accusations that he molested his daughter’s sleepover companion three years ago.

The girl, now 15, told Thurston detectives on June 16, 2021 that the incident had occurred around this time of year when she was 12.

The man is accused of entering the bonus room in which his daughter was staying with her friend, coming into the room after his daughter was asleep, and then grabbing and dragging his daughter’s friend down a hallway into his bedroom. The girl said he held one hand over her mouth while touching her groin area repeatedly.

By allegedly putting his hand over the girl’s mouth, she said it preventing her from breathing and she claims to have passed out during the incident. She reported that she woke up on the floor of the man’s room alone, with her bra on, her shirt off and her pants unbuttoned.

“I remember smelling very strong alcohol on his breath,” the girl reported to the investigating detective. She told detectives that she didn’t tell anyone until May 27, 2021 because she didn’t “want to be known as a victim or as helpless.”

The man was interviewed by detectives on June 22, 2021. He denied that the girl had ever stayed at the house. He denied ever interacting in a sexual way with the girl and said that she was not welcome in his house after he had kicked her out following an incident regarding his daughter not cleaning her room.

On June 24, 2021, the man voluntarily took a polygraph test conducted by detectives. The test results regarded the accused as "deceptive in his responses" to three questions regarding sexual contact with the victim.
