Man with gun arrested at Fred Meyer in Tumwater

Posted

TUMWATER –– A man was arrested at Fred Meyer in Tumwater early Thursday afternoon after allegedly bringing a gun into the store.

Tumwater Police officers arrived on scene and arrested the man. A video on Facebook shows several officers putting handcuffs on the man, who is laying on the floor and not wearing a mask.

"There were a lot more police in the store than were visible in the video, plus about eight police cars and a fire truck in the parking lot," said Bernie Friedman, a Tumwater resident who recorded the video. "I'm guessing they were looking for a weapon."

Friedman said on Facebook the man entered the store with a gun and when confronted by a store employee about not wearing a mask, stuck the gun in the employee’s chest.

Despite growing up in Brooklyn in New York City, Friedman remarked he'd "never been involved in anything that close."

Calls to the Tumwater Police Department seeking comment weren’t immediately answered. Calls to the Fred Meyer location in Tumwater also weren’t immediately returned.

This story will be updated.
