North Thurston Public Schools’ District 3 Board Member Melissa “Mel” Hartley will be stepping down from the board after accepting a job offer on the east coast, school officials announced.

Now, the board is accepting nominees to fill the position.

Anyone interested in nominating a candidate, or becoming a candidate, can contact the superintendent’s office at 360-412-4413 or by email at superintendent@nthurston.k12.wa.us

The replacement will be chosen through a vote of the remaining board members, and will serve until the November 2021 regular election, according to a press release from the district.

All nominees will receive a summary of director responsibilities and information on how to become a candidate. The process will involve candidates providing a brief biographical sketch of their background and a statement about their interest in becoming a board director.

Applications are due back to the superintendent’s office located at 305 College St. NE, Lacey, WA 98516, by 3 p.m. March 19, 2021. The replacement will be a U.S. citizen, qualified voter and resident of District 3.
