Olympia seeking new Poet Laureate to promote climate change awareness

Posted

Olympia is accepting applications for a Poet Laureate in its efforts to engage the community in the literary arts.

“Olympia’s take on the position of Poet Laureate is less an honorary title and more about service over status,” the city said in a press release, adding that the awardee will be called on to use poetry to “contribute to thoughtful response and centering around our environment and climate change.”

Among the city’s poet’s duties include promoting poetry as an art form, expanding access to the literary arts, and encouraging poetry as a community voice that contributes to a sense of place.

The awardee will receive an annual stipend of $2000 and serve a two-year term.

Applicants must either be a resident of Olympia or works in the city, be over 18, and submit their application before Monday, April 17.

Interested community members may visit the program website or address their queries to Parks, Arts & Recreation Arts Program & Planning Supervisor Stephanie Johnson at 360-709-2678 or sjohnson@ci.olympia.wa.us.

From the pending ice age, to global warming, to Al Gore insisting all glaciers would be melted by now, and now climate "change". Not to mention the natural earth rotation changes, the planets changing, the sun aging, the solar system moving around our galaxy, other galaxies and the universe expanding every moment.

To politician's families having huge financial upsides to a different form of energy.

To politicians making us energy dependent.

People can make up anything and try to sell it. Some will believe.

Our truckers will not be able to move our food supplies. The rail system will slow. We will no longer be able to take our families on day trips.

Hmm, will common sense enter the equation?
