Olympia Women's March takes place this Saturday, two days before November 5 election

The Olympia Women's March 2024 takes place this Saturday, November 2, beginning at 10 a.m. on the steps of the Legislative Building and ending at Heritage Park.

The inclusive event encourages the attendance of all allies, advocates, and community members to join a "movement for equality, freedom, and the rights of all women."

The event is set to start with speeches from local leaders and inspiring personalities. The speakers will set the day's tone as participants march together from the Capitol Steps to Heritage Park.

After arriving at Heritage Park, participants can expect a welcome with live music that celebrates what its promoters call resilience, strength, and a shared commitment to justice.

"This march is not just a rally—it's a call to action. Join us to march for women's equality, empowerment, and liberation. Bring your signs and voices and join us as we march in solidarity. This event is all-inclusive and a place where every voice advocating for justice is welcome," the event's press release stated.

Former Olympia Mayor Cheryl Selby, a member of Sister Cities International's Board of Directors, said that the nonprofit organization Olympia Pride is the local sponsor of the event, which is the first of its kind in Olympia.

"The first Women's March in Olympia was in 2017. It was part of a national movement in response to the election of Trump and the worries that he'd take women's healthcare rights away. There was a second march in 2018. After that year, there wasn't one organized in Olympia until this one. The 2024 Women's March in Olympia is supported by the national organization and one of 250 being held nationwide this Saturday," said Selby in an email to The JOLT.

The first nationwide version of the event was held on January 21, 2017, the day after President Donald Trump's inauguration. That day, The Olympian reported that approximately 10,000 people attended the march.

"We are marketing the event across many organizations as a welcoming and inclusive way to celebrate the power of women and raise awareness of what's at stake for women's healthcare if Trump is elected. All allies are welcome," Selby said.

Event details and updates are available on the event's Facebook listing.

The event hashtags for social media postings are #OlympiaWomensMarch2024, #EmpowerUniteLiberate, and #FightForChange.

Amazing now many delusional and misguided women there are. They all have one thing on common...they all believe in abortion, and they ALL HAVE ALREADY BEEN BORN. Those who have been murdered by the abortion industry have no voice, only the 'born'.

If you don’t believe in abortion, don’t have one. Women should have the right to make their own choices about their bodies.

Women have all the rights they need, and they're still not happy. This parade/charade is nonsense. It's all about abortion. If you don't want to get pregnant, there are MANY ways to prevent pregnancy! If you are raped, it is easy to end that pregnancy, especially in this state. If your unborn children are inconvenient, I wonder what you think about your aging parents and grandparents. Maybe they're next to have their lives ended.

Who cares about rampant crime and public safety and fentanyl? At least you can still get your precious abortion. These low IQ voters will cause everyone in this state to face the consequences of pathetic leadership because all they are about is abortion. Self-obsessed to the end.

Speaking of delusional and misguided… The majority of comments here clearly demonstrate the closed minded of our community, who are so quick to denigrate women who have been consistently victimized over the decades. It is one thing to express your disagreement, while it is quite another to attack your neighbors.
