The Port of Olympia Commission approved on Monday, October 28, to renew its contract with ILWU Local 47A, which represents the marine terminal workers.
International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 47A differs from Local 47B, which does not yet have a contract with the port. The latter union, representing the port's marina and boatyard workers, has been negotiating a contract since it was formed in April 2022.
Local 47A represents eight positions, two currently vacant, while Local 47B represents 14 employees.
Executive Director Alex Smith told the Port Commission that the new contract includes updated sections regarding an apprenticeship program, pension, minimum staffing levels, wage, and sick leave.
Director of Operations Warren Hendrickson told the Port Commission that salary expenses for Local 47A members will increase by 6% in 2025 due to the new contract.
The new contract is effective from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027, so the Port Commission authorized it retroactively.
Hendrickson also mentioned that the contract for the newer union, Local 47B, will be brought to the commission on November 12 and that the proposed contract includes an average salary increase of 7.2% for Local 47B members. His slide presentation showed that the increase is due to a $2.00 per hour raise for all bargaining unit members and other salary adjustments for specific positions.

Spending into More and More Debt.
The Marine Terminal will NEVER operate at a dead even level and certainly NEVER MAKE ANY PROFIT.... Shut that Money Pit Down. Save the expenense of Dredging the Marine Terminal. Use the savings to fund Waterfront Townhomes on that land all the way to Anthonys. That's a Money making Deal. And saves the costs of Dredging Up more Contaminates.
