Prop. 1 passes, keeping county’s fire protection district operations running

Posted

THURSTON COUNTY –– Proposition 1, establishing a tax levy of $1.50 of $1,000 of assessed value to help fund Thurston County Fire Protection District operations, passed with 63.49 percent of the vote, or 1,407 votes, as of preliminary results at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire protection district’s board of directors previously adopted the resolution to restore the levy, although the tax levy needed to go to the voters before it was officially imposed. According to the Thurston County Voters Pamphlet, the levy limit factor can’t exceed 106 percent, or the $1.50 per $1,000 rate, for five years. The 2026 levy amount will be used to determine levy limits in subsequent years.
