Department of Health head fast-tracks approval of Thurston County's application

Posted

OLYMPIA, May 27, 2020 – Seventy-two days after Governor Jay Inslee’s statewide lockdown orders were issued, the Washington State Department of Health granted Thurston County permission to move to Phase 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

For people who have been locked down for more than two months it means there will be opportunities to again shop in stores, eat in restaurants and, for many, most important of all: get a haircut. Restrictions were loosened on certain outdoor recreation activities, but not spectator sports. Pet grooming, fitness clubs and churches each have specific restrictions but are immediately allowed to resume operations.

Contrasting against the Safe Start program is the Stay Home, Stay Healthy Order that took effect on March 17 which remains in effect.  The order requires Washingtonians to stay home as much as possible except for allowable activities.  It is the list of these allowed activities that expands in each of the four phases of the Safe Start program.

Details about what is allowed and the requirements for each activity or work segment are available on the state’s website

Covid-19, safe start
