Press Release

Road Stripe Painting – Avoid Wet Paint

Citywide Line Striping and Pavement Marking Project

Posted

TUMWATER –– Road crews will paint new center lines edge lines, and bike lanes on streets citywide from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m., Aug. 1 & 2, 2020.

Drivers should expect traffic delays in areas where striping work is underway. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained, but minor delays should be expected in areas where the painting is currently taking place.

Road striping is a moving operation and drivers should watch for flashing lights, vehicles with message boards indicating “Caution: Wet Paint,” and fresh-looking paint on the roadway. On some roads, striping crews will use escort vehicles ahead of and behind the striping truck.

Drivers can prevent damage and avoid getting fresh paint on their vehicles by following these few tips and driving cautiously in work zones.

·        Do not pass paint striping vehicles.

·        Do not drive across newly-painted markings.

·        Do not follow the painting vehicles too closely.

Drivers should rinse or apply water as soon as possible after getting road stripe paint on any vehicle. More information on how to remove paint from a vehicle is on the city website. For additional assistance, please contact public works operations at 360-754-4150.

The striping and pavement marking work requires dry roads and warm weather conditions. If inclement weather prohibits work, the schedule will be extended to the following weekend.

This work will be completed by Thurston County Public Works and City of Tumwater Public Works Department road crews.
