Saint Martin’s University announced on Feb. 11 that the school received a historic $1.5 million donation from an unnamed source in a bid to kickstart the renovation of its baseball facility.
"This generous gift underscores the unwavering support of our community for the vision and mission of Saint Martin's," said Dr. Bill Brownsberger, president of Saint Martin's University, on the largest single donation ever made to the athletic program.
"By investing in our baseball program, this donor is helping us provide a first-class athletic experience that aligns with our Catholic Benedictine values and creates opportunities for our student-athletes to thrive both on and off the field."
The Saints have also shared about what they will do with the money, mainly focusing on “critical improvements” on Saints Field and enclosing the existing batting cages.
The upgrades are expected to elevate the overall experience for athletes and fans alike, bolster athlete recruitment and retention, and further position the Saints as the hometown team.
The Saints baseball program is coming off an impressive season in the summer of 2024 despite losing their postseason slot.
Seven players earned all-conference honors, while Colin Driscoll made history as the program's second-ever conference Pitcher of the Year, finishing the season with a league-leading 3.17 ERA and .219 opponent batting average, while racking up 58 strikeouts through 71 innings.
“These improvements will not only elevate our training and game-day facilities, but also show our current and future players that we are committed to their success. We are deeply thankful for this extraordinary gift," said interim head coach Joey Swanson.
The Saints baseball team is expected to start the 2025 conference season on Feb. 28, hosting Central Washington University at Lacey Field.
