As of today's close of business, no one has filed to run for the new Port Commissioner seat for District 5, which covers most of the city of Lacey and areas north of its boundaries.

Otherwise, 85 individuals have filed documents to run for 57 of the 58 positions on various ballots throughout Thurston County this August and November.

School board seats are the most contested

Positions in which three or more candidates are running will appear on ballots for the August 1 Primary Election.

Most positions are unopposed

Until the county commissioners are not elected at large the rural areas will continue to be dominated by the urban center of the county.

What if the person appointed turns down the honor? Heaven forbid!
