A man tore allegedly apart a room at a Tumwater hotel after claiming that his phone was hacked last Tuesday evening.

Vu Nguyen, 39, of Olympia, caused more than $800 worth of damage at the Best Western Tumwater Inn at 5188 Capitol Blvd S on May 25 just after 7 p.m., according to police.

The hotel’s management was alerted after hearing yelling and smashing sounds out of Nguyen’s room 216. Staff called the police after Nguyen refused their request to stop yelling.

When Tumwater Police arrived, Nguyen cracked the door open, revealing that he had destroyed a lamp, a television, broken out a window and put holes in the wall.

Nguyen told officers that “I was mad that people are hacking my phone. They're probably listening now. I don't know who's doing it.  I threw the Lysol spray bottle at the TV. I threw the lamp and microwave at the wall and window. I also threw the lamp at the TV. They contacted me two times after I threw the stuff."

Nguyen was booked into the Nisqually Jail for malicious mischief and advised that he was being trespassed from the property, prohibiting him from coming back to it without permission.
