Thurston County Auditor swears in newly elected and re-elected officials in first-ever all-remote ceremony

Posted

In a ceremony lasting just 50 minutes, including time to work out technical glitches, Thurston County received a blessing, heard two keynote addresses and swore in seven state and county officials today.

County Auditor Mary Hall was both master of ceremonies and administered the oath of office to the following re- and newly elected officials:

  • State Senator Sam Hunt
  • State Rep. Laurie Dolan
  • State Rep. Jessica Bateman
  • County Commissioner Carolina Mejia
  • County Commissioner Gary Edwards
  • County Superior Court Judge Sharonda D. Amamilo
  • Public Utilities District Commissioner Chris Stearns

Prior to the swearings-in, Rabbi Seth Goldstein delivered a prayer for the elected officials. Retiring Superior Court Judge Anne Hirsch delivered a keynote address offering her congratulations and reminding  the seven of their "obligation to serve with humility and grace."

Concluding the event was a keynote by Timberland Regional Library Executive Director Cheryl Heywood, who described the many ways that libraries help prospective citizens, including herself, to prepare for the benefits and obligations of U.S. citizenship.

The event was recorded and you can watch it here.
