Hazardous weather advisory set to end Friday in Thurston County

A hazardous weather advisory issued to increase shelter-in-place efforts in Thurston County is set to expire on Friday morning, Feb. 7.

Thurston County Public Health and Social Services issued the advisory, which extended from  Saturday, Feb. 1 to Friday, Feb. 7.

Extended overnight shelters will be offered to the public on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and Thursday, Feb. 6, because of extremely cold temperatures.

 Locations offering expanded shelter and outreach services: 

  • Olympia Mutual Aid Partners (OlyMap) will distribute emergency supplies to people without shelter. 
  • Sergio’s Place located in the 3444 block of Martine Way NE, will offer overnight shelter for unsheltered adults from Feb. 5-6, starting at 8 p.m. Pets are welcome. 
  • Families with children and pregnant individuals can access nightly shelter at Pear Blossom Place located in the 837 block of 7th Avenue SE. 
  • Youth and young adults (24 and under) can seek shelter at Rosie’s Place located in the 520 block of Pear Street SE, with sign-ups beginning at 9 a.m. on weekdays. 
  • Additional shelter options are available at Union Gospel Mission, St. Michael’s Parish, and Sacred Heart.

Donations and volunteer support needed

OlyMap and Interfaith Works seek cold-weather donations, including warm clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, and food. Donations can be dropped off at: 

  • OlyMap: First Christian Church located in the 701 block of Franklin Street, Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
  • Sergio’s Place: 3501 block of Mary Elder Road NE, Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
