The indoor season heated up for The Evergreen State College Track and Field team, as they represented the green jersey in separate track meets in January and February.

Corona Parker and Alauna Carstens, track and field mainstays for the Geoducks in their respective events, represented the schhool in the UW Invitational last Jan. 31 and improved some of their personal bests.

Meanwhile, a strong Geoducks contingent participated in the Corban Indoor Open in Oregon on Feb. 1, highlighted by Izabelle Trefts qualifying for two national championship events.

AT the UW Invitational, Parker smashed her own school record in the high jump as one of her disciplines in the pentathlon, while Carstens improved her earlier time in the 3,000-meter run. She also maintained her National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) “A" national qualifying result.

Parker cleared 1.61 meters in the indoor pentathlon high jump, breaking her own previous school record of 1.55 meters, for her highest finish at joint-seventh.

She also recorded a 10.12 finish in the 60-meter hurdles, an 8.2-meter throw at shotput, a 4.77-meter leap at the long jump and a 2:46.53 finish in the 800 meters. Overall, she garnered 2,851 points, which was good enough for 12th place.

Meanwhile, Carstens improved her speed from two weeks ago as she clocked in at 9:44.54 in the 3,000-meter run for the third-fastest time in the NAIA this season. She had already secured her NAIA “A” qualifying with a time of 9:56.70 in the UW Preview on Jan. 17.

At the Corban Indoor open, it was junior Izabelle Trefts who led the Geoduck team, as she qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships and the USA Track and Field (USATF) Indoor Championships.

Trefts completed the 3,000-meter racewalk at 14:24.70, which not only qualified her for both championship events, but also set the school record and is third fastest in the NAIA this season. Sheis the third-ever Geoduck to  qualify for the USATF Indoor Nationals.

"I am so proud of Izabelle! She raced well, was aggressive from the start, and had a really strong finish," Evergreen Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach Joel Pearson said.

"I am very excited to have Izabelle join Alauna (Carstens) in qualifying for the NAIA Indoors. Having an Evergreen athlete qualify for USA Indoors is such an awesome honor! “

Joining her at the Corban meet was Maddie Morgan, who finished second in the women’s 60-meter hurdles after clocking 10.93s.

Tanisha Engram placed second in the women’s shotput after recording an 8.26-meter throw; Iris Campesino placed third in the women’s 60 meters with a time of 9.08; and Haley Steen placed fifth in the women’s 400 meters at 1:15.50.
