TUMWATER – Last Tuesday council members approved an interlocal agreement with the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney's Office (PAO) for the renewal of prosecution services for the years 2021 and 2022.
The Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney's Office (PAO) submitted a proposal for this work which is $10,000 per year less than the current prosecution contract. “The 2019-2020 Tumwater prosecution contract was $220,856; the pending 2021-2022 Tumwater prosecution contract is $210,000. The $10,856 reduction is anticipating a slight reduction in caseload,” the PAO’s Chief of Staff Christy Peters told the JOLT in an email.
Agenda files for this meeting indicate that the city had intended to prepare a request for proposal (RFP) for this contract, but decided not to “given the current health emergency and the proposed reduction in the annual cost.”
In the proposed agreement, Tumwater will pay the PAO $210,000 to cover infrastructure, overhead, and administrative support for this two-year period. The hired officer will be an independent contractor with the authority to control and direct details of the work with the city’s approval. The PAO may also provide the city of Tumwater with civil case support related to code enforcement matters, billed separately at an hourly rate of $140.
