Two charges have been filed against a transient Lacey man after police found him in a car that he admitted he bought for cheap from a friend who stole it.

A document from the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney dated Dec. 1 stated that Martin was charged for possession of stolen motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.

According to Olympia police, Matthew E Martin was arrested on Nov. 28, Sun., outside a Safeway along Martin Way after a police officer conducting a routine business check noticed the car and found records indicating that it was stolen.

The officer noted in his report that he immediately recognized Martin from “multiple contacts” related to vehicle prowling, thefts, and narcotics.

Martin told police that his friend “Chunk” or “Chubbs” took him to a large property with multiple cars earlier in the day of the arrest, and they made a deal where he would pay his friend “no more than $500” for a vehicle.

The suspect told police that he took the keys from Chunk knowing that his friend had stolen the car.

Police noted that “in numerous calls the previous month, the name ‘Chunk’ has been mentioned by multiple individuals.”

A search of the vehicle in Martin’s possession yielded suspected methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia such as needles and needle caps.

Martin was booked at the Thurston County Jail for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
