Western Governors University opens admission to teens aged 14-18

Western Governors University (WGU) is now opening its admission application to 500 students aged 14-18 for the first cohort of its new academic pathway, with classes starting on March 1.

This pathway allows the younger teens with a high school diploma or equivalent to be enrolled in academic programs in WGU’s School of  Education, Leavitt School of Health, College of Business, and College of Information Technology.

The classes will be delivered via flexible online learning, and WGU features a “high-quality, affordable higher education, online, and nonprofit” according to their press release.

"High school-aged students and their families are seeking new postsecondary options as they increasingly question the value of traditional college and learning delivery models,” said WGU President Scott Pulsipher. “We are proud to serve these young learners and play a role in helping them achieve their dreams.”

The first batch of students under the program will be enrolled in the same industry-informed and career-aligned degree programs as currently enrolled students.

A special orientation and onboarding process will await them, with a dedicated contact point for parents and/or guardians and all of WGU’s mentoring support, resources, and capabilities.

Interested individuals may apply regardless of their current residence and status as long as they hold the minimum high school diploma or equivalent.

“With a mission to expand access to high-quality, affordable higher education, online, nonprofit WGU serves students nationwide. This means that it is open and more accessible to WA state students regardless of residence,” Althea Conyers Achem, public relations account director at GreenRubino, said.
