Chief Leschi’s birthday memorial walk, January 27, from 10:30 a.m.
On Jan. 27, Chief Leschi's birthday - there will be a walk from the spot of the marker noting his hanging to Ft. Steilacoom Park, where additional interpretation is planned about Leschi. The Medicine River Ranch will have some horses participating and the walk will be about 1.3 miles to the rear parking lot where an interpretive walk will start in the future. During the 1855 Puget Sound Indian-Settler War, Leschi commanded the warriors of the Nisqually, Puyallup, and upper Duwamish tribes. An annual walk is held to honor him. Stories of food, Food as story, January 28, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Stories of food, food as story is a 4-session project-based workshop to explore the history and cultural heritage through food traditions. Local teaching artists will guide participants through the process of: Identifying a food tradition through which they can learn about their history or culture; Conducting an oral history interview(s) to document the tradition; and Using interview transcripts and memorabilia as source material as inspiration to create a short piece of creative nonfiction and/or a visual journal. Epic cornhole challene, January 28, 4 p.m. - 11 p.m.
Cornholers and cornholer aspirants will face off at Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester in a fund-raiser for Family Education and Support Services (FESS). A silent auction will provide further fun to brighten a long winter’s evening, as will a DJ and entertainment invited by Bobby Williams, founder, and president of the Bridge Music Project. The Epic Cornhole Challenge is an indoor cornhole tournament dedicated to raising funds to help Family Education & Support Services (FESS) change lives - for children, families, and communities. Amphibians of the Pacific Northwest workshop, January 28, 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Join Stream Team and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (WDFW) senior aquatic research scientist Dr. Max Lambert for a fun, informative workshop. This workshop will explore the ecology, habitat requirements and unique characteristics of each of our Stillwater breeding amphibian species. We will also learn how to identify different life stages of PNW amphibians with some emphasis on egg mass identification. Best for ages 12 and up. Click this link for more details.

Miss Thurston County, January 28, from 4 p.m.
Miss Thurston County is the official preliminary to Miss Washington and Miss America. Come watch candidates compete for the title of Miss Thurston County and Miss Thurston County’s Outstanding Teen. Candidates will compete in Red Carpet, Talent, Interview, and On Sage Question. Who will go on to compete for Miss Washington and Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen 2023? Blind Boys of Alabama, January 28, 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
The Blind Boys of Alabama are recognized worldwide as living legends of gospel music. They have attained the highest levels of achievement in a career that spans over 70 years. The Blind Boys are known for crossing multiple musical boundaries with their remarkable interpretations of everything from traditional gospel favorites to contemporary spiritual material by songwriters such as Eric Clapton, Prince, and Tom Waits. Free Admission Day: Orca Odyssey Exhibit, January 29, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Admission to the Estuarium will be free all day! Come to the Estuarium to learn all about the orcas that share the waters of Puget Sound. The exhibit will consist of photos and information about the southern resident orcas. You will learn their history in this area and the survival challenges they face. They will have samples of real marine mammal pelts and a harbor porpoise skeleton to examine while we discuss the life of an orca in these waters. Ailey II, January 31, 7:30 p.m - 9:30 p.m.

Black History Month tours at The Mansion, February 1, from 10 a.m.
The 45-minute tours are free, open to the public, and will include information about the Mansion and feature biographical information about notable Black Washingtonians; presented throughout the house by members of the Black community in Thurston County, ending with a short live performance. Ornithology with Alex Troutman, February 2, from 6:30 p.m.
Tune into the Estuarium’s Facebook Live or join them through Zoom on February 2nd at 6:30 PM for an introduction to ornithology, the study of birds, with Alex Troutman, a black birder. His research focuses on the relationship between birds and insects in tidal wetlands. His talk will be about studying birds and waterfowl in general and being a blackbirder/natural enthusiast. Quilts of Valor national sew day, February 4, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Please join in making red, white, and blue patriotic quilt blocks that will be sewn together to make larger quilts. These quilts will then be awarded to the local Veterans and active duty service members that live in Thurston County. The local Stars and Stripes Quilts of Valor group will be there to help you. Broadway at the Paramount: Ain’t too Proud, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations is the electrifying, new smash-hit Broadway musical that follows The Temptations’ journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. With their signature dance moves and silky-smooth harmonies, they rose to the top of the charts creating an amazing 42 Top Ten Hits!  Lunch before the matinee performance is included.
