A winter weather advisory is in effect for Thurston County, as a storm system is forecasted to create dodgy conditions for motorists and pedestrians in the region.

The National Weather Service (NWS) advisory, which is in effect until 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, anticipates more snow in the region. Total snow accumulation could be up to one-half inch overnight.

“Snow amounts will be variable across the area,” the NWS said in the advisory. “Localized higher amounts are possible under any bands of heavier snow that develop.”

The advisory also calls on motorists to slow down and use caution while driving, as well as encouraging people to prepare for possible power outages.

An NWS forecast calls for an overnight low around 27 degrees with a south, southwest wind of 6 miles per hour before calming after midnight.

The forecast improves on Thursday with a high near 39 degrees amid a backdrop of partly sunny skies.
