New EPA rules aim to cut vehicle emissions for cleaner air

Posted

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently introduced new regulations to reduce emissions from new cars and light trucks.

The "Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Years 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium-Duty Vehicles" rule sets stricter standards on emissions of nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, particulate matter pollution, and greenhouse gases.

“The standards will provide important health benefits to millions of people across the country, including both urban and rural communities near major roadways, which are disproportionately exposed to air pollution from motor vehicles,” informed the EPA fact sheet.

To meet these new standards, experts predict that electric vehicle sales may need to comprise up to 65 percent of car and light truck sales by 2032.

The regulations will be gradually phased in over model years 2027 through 2032.

So, if the EPA introduces restrictions or measures or rules.... Are the then laws? If we don't follow those rules, restrictions, or measures can we be fined or arrested? If so then that means they are laws and only congress makes laws. I don't remember Congress voting on this, heck I don't remember voting for this?

Funny, not funny... how unelected officials can create laws - so much for the democratic process.
