A man attempted to elude law enforcement on a high-speed chase while having his eight-year-old nephew in the vehicle last Thursday according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
Adrian Thomas Negrete, 22, of Rochester, was stopped just after 10 a.m. on June 17 at the 11900 block of Littlerock Rd SW with after a chase with speeds that twice exceeded 105 miles per hour, according to the reporting deputy.
Negrete caught the attention of a Thurston Sheriff’s Deputy headed the opposite direction as his lifted 2005 Dodge pickup passed another pick-up, hitting the deputy’s Falcon HD radar at 90 mph. The Deputy activated their emergency lights, which caused Negrete’s truck to slow down to 78 mph. When the deputy turned around to purse, he observed a large plume of thik black smoke coming out of the tailpipe.
Negrete did not slow down, causing the deputy to reach a speed of 105 mph as the two entered a school zone.
Negrete drove into the oncoming lane, making a hard left, then headed onto Maytown Rd SW. In the police report, Negrete’s truck slid sideways across the roadway, causing the rear of the truck to drift around and into a shallow ditch.
Negrete lost control of his vehicle at the intersection of Shadowbrook Dr SW and Maytown Rd SE, entering and exiting a ditch and striking some small trees.
Finally stopped, Negrete flung the driver’s door open, and looked back at the deputy. According to the police report, it appeared that Negrete was contemplating running. Inside the rear of the truck’s cab, the deputy observed an eight-year-old boy and a husky dog.
The deputy contacted the boy, who was Negrete’s nephew, who was reportedly shaken and scared, but not injured.
Negrete was booked into the Thurston County Jail for attempting to elude, driving while license suspended/revoked and reckless endangerment.
