A man was arrested after approximately $5,000 worth of electrical wire was reported stolen in the 3500 block of Marvin Road NE in Lacey.
The incident was reported to the Lacey Police Department on Wednesday, July 9, by a City of Lacey employee.
Investigators reviewed video footage showing the wire being taken and were able to identify the suspect as 44-year-old William Puckett, the Lacey Police Department said in a social media post.
Puckett has a long police record having been arrested six times over the past year for various offenses.
“One of these arrests was for a burglary where $40,000 in items were recovered, with other arrests for theft, possession of a controlled substance, and warrants,” the police department said.
Officers recovered several bags filled with electrical wiring during the suspect's most recent brush with the law.
Puckett was brought to Thurston County Corrections Facility and booked on first-degree theft and second-degree malicious mischief charges.

Probably lives in subsidized housing and thrives on the other free resources local officials love to provide at taxpayer expense. Putting this fellow in jail for an extended time would be a much better use of tax dollars.

Apparently this fellow hasn't learned a damn thing. He is a clear threat to our community and as such needs to be locked up until he sees the error of his ways.
That said, who buys this class of stolen property? Copper wire is worth nothing to a criminal if it cannot be sold. Recently there have been laws requiring scrap metal buyers to document from whom they buy. Perhaps these laws need to be tightened up.
