Traffic on 6th Avenue NE has been narrowed to one lane in each direction this week, as Active Construction Inc. (ACI) continues water main installation eastbound from Sleater Kinney Road NE toward College Street NE.
Two center lanes are closed with maintenance work scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, which “will last through the end of the week,” according to the City of Lacey Public Works.
The 6th Avenue closure began on Monday, March 31. It follows trenching operations on College Street NE that started on March 12. That phase moved north from Martin Way E toward 6th Avenue NE.
The work on College Street NE was expected to finish in late March, but has since been extended. With this in mind, the contractor adjusted operations to four, 10-hour shifts per week with Fridays off. The move to 6th Avenue was confirmed by the end of March.
Under a contract with the City of Lacey, ACI shall execute “sewer, water, and storm system upgrades.”
The work will also add “new asphalt surfacing and sidewalks from Martin Way E to 15th Avenue NE along College Street NE and along 6th Avenue NE from Sleater Kinney Road NE to College Street NE," according to a project description.
Lacey Public Works confirmed that access to homes will continue to be available. Vehicle movement will be limited in and around the mentioned areas.
