No one in Thurston County likely noticed an earthquake today, first reported at 2:07 p.m.
The quake was centered less than eight miles northwest of Morton, in Lewis County, and some 36.8 miles southeast of Olympia.
The U.S. Geological Survey first reported the jolt as a 2.8-magnitude tremor and updated its reporting a minute later at 2.9 on the Richter scale. Both are described as "minor" quakes and are classified at the lowest level ( I ) on the Modified Mercalli Intensity scale.
