After entirely closing their offices and halting their services during the pandemic, the AARP Foundation is back in business for this season’s filing income tax returns.
The foundation’s IRS-certified volunteers will give free assistance for you to electronically file your income tax return and make sure you claim the tax refund, credits, and deductions you are entitled to you.
This free tax preparation service in Thurston County is intended for taxpayers of all ages and income levels, excluding isolated cases not included in the training of IRS-certified volunteers.
According to their site, the AARP Foundation will “help taxpayers of any age or income, with an emphasis on serving low and moderate-income taxpayers who cannot afford a paid tax preparer.”
Younger taxpayers and families are also included, and they may claim federal tax credits. In fact, several taxpayers with kids are eligible for the Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Credit, and American Opportunity Tax Credit for family members enrolled in college.
Each individual return is expected to be prepared in just one visit, from start to finish, unless there are missing tax documents or personal identification.
The services will be available to Thurston county residents in three different modes of making an appointment and will be held in six locations.
There are three ways to make an appointment:
The table below shows the different sites and time schedules for each. All sites except Yelm are open two days a week.
