Adult Dinghy Sailing

for ages 19 & above

Posted

Have you ever seen the small sailboats cruising around Budd Inlet and wanted to join? Now's your chance! Join Olympia Community Sailing on the water and learn the basics of sailing aboard our small dinghy sailboats. These boats are 14-15ft long and have a centerboard keel, meaning sailors use their bodyweight to balance the boat. Students should be able to squat, generally move about with ease, and be comfortable swimming with a lifejacket to take this class. This class will cover various basic sailing topics such as knots, how to rig a boat, points of sail, sail trim, finding the wind, and docking. This class is great for anyone who wants to learn to sail a small, trailerable dinghy that can easily take a small family out. This class will consist of four 3-hour sessions and will be held aboard the following boats: Catalina Capri 14.2 and Boston Whaler Harpoon 5.2.
