A local business that assists people with vocational training is launching a paid, 12-week training initiative designed to give individuals from marginalized communities the confidence, resources and skills necessary to succeed in the culinary and hospitality industries.

ASHHO Cultural Community Center of Tumwater announced the launch of its Culinary & Hospitality Skills Job Training Program.

“The program integrates hands-on training, classroom education, mental health support, and career placement services to address systemic barriers to employment,” said ASHHO in announcing the program on Jan. 15.

Applications for the program are being accepted through Feb. 3. The program begins on Feb. 10. ASHHO is encouraging interested individuals to attend one of two information meetings in order to learn more about the program.

The meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 1-2 p.m. via Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/94913071221 and on Monday, Feb. 3, from 10-11 a.m. via Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/96060761773.

ASHHO is also looking to create partnerships within the business community, as a means to sustain success for participants in the program. It has scheduled two, in-person informational events at the community center.

A lunch information session is for Thursday, Jan. 23, at noon. A breakfast information session is set for Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 9 a.m.

“These events will provide insight into the program’s goals, its potential community impact, and the many ways businesses and organizations can collaborate with ASHHO to empower individuals and create lasting change,” said ASHHO in announcing the program.
