Average price of regular unleaded gas surges past $5 in Olympia market

Posted

The average price of regular unleaded gasoline leaped more than 47 cents per gallon in the Olympia market last week, as an escalating conflict in the Middle East has wreaked havoc on the oil market.

The price of regular unleaded gas soared to $5.266 per gallon on Friday, March 20, from $4.793 per gallon on Friday, March 13, according to data compiled by AAA.

One year earlier, the average price was $4.161 per gallon. The highest recorded average price for regular unleaded gas in Olympia stands at $5.571, which was set on June 13, 2022.

Gas prices have been on the upswing in the state of Washington and the nation since the United States and Israel launched coordinated military operations against Iran on Feb. 28. The continuing military operations and the response from Iran have paralyzed the flow of oil in the region.

“Last week’s announcement by the White House to release 172 million barrels of oil from its strategic reserves over four months has no immediate relief on the oil market as the price of a barrel of crude oil continues to climb,” said AAA in its weekly gas prices report.

The state of Washington posted the second highest average price for regular unleaded gas in the country at $5.215 per gallon on Friday, up from $4.760 per gallon a week earlier.

California led the pack at $5.657 per gallon on Friday, up from $5.416 a week ago, followed by Hawaii at $5.125 per gallon, up from $4.848 a week earlier. The national average weighed in at $3.912 per gallon on Friday, up from $3.630 a week ago.

In the state of Washington, the highest average price for regular unleaded gas was recorded in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett market at $5.407 per gallon on Friday, up from $4.939 per gallon a week earlier.

The lowest average price for regular unleaded gas was posted in the Clarkson market at $4.622 per gallon on Friday, up from $3.999 a week ago. AAA tracks gas prices in 14 markets across the state of Washington.

This state's high gas prices are the work of the state legislature, and it has been this way for quite some time. We can't pin this on our President.

This is without a doubt the draft dodging orange Dotard’s fault. To distract from protecting rich pedofiles he wacks the hornets nest in the middle to sow chaos because that’s just what he does. Why is a sycophant suckling to Netanyahu you ask. Because the orange dotard and his creepy son in law wan to make another fortune in the Gaza Strip building ugly condos where Israel just slaughtered 38k Palestinians and the American people get to foot the bill. If Israel doesn’t want be be a target maybe they should try stopping go to war against their neighbors. My father’s time in a B-24 bomber risking his life was a complete waste of time, Israel has not only squandered that good will they’ve abused it. So enjoy your hiked up gas prices while driving those empty hauling pickup trucks all you toxic masculinity Trumptards. Be careful what you wish for you just might get it!

Preemptive war tends to do this. It's like MAGA totally forgot about Iraq, and suddenly 'War is Good!' The Israel lobby has got you in its pocket.

Then we've got JustSaying here demonstrating pathetic mental gymnastics so they can continue to protect the Pedophile-In-Chief.

There is nobody to blame but yourselves for voting in this absolute shitshow.

JustSaying - it's amazing that the entire world sees a huge jump in gas prices when we attack Iran, but you're still blaming the WA legislature, especially when you can look this up immediately and see how wrong you are.

Did they introduce a new gas tax this session?

    No, they did not.

Washington's state gas tax is 55.4 cents per gallon as of July 1, 2025, which remains in effect for the 2026 session, accompanied by automatic 2% annual increases to account for inflation.

Your obese pedophile started a war, and that is the reason why gas shot up over a dollar a gallon.

Boys boys, lets not get our jock straps in a twist, this is clearly Obamas fault and everyone knows it. Clear as his brown suit with Dijon mustard on the side.

I suppose Inslee gets a pass on his BS tax to NOT fix our Roads? IF it weren't for his "Climate Change" agenda we would be about a buck twenty four less right now...
