Attend the event at New Life Baptist Church

Posted

New Life Baptist Church in Lacey will host an OPEN HOUSE of its Black History Museum on Saturday, February 18 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Morris Fellowship Hall.

The public is invited! Tremendous response and interest in this phenomenal museum have prompted this addition to the Black History Month activities of the church, with New Life being the oldest and largest predominantly Black Church in Southwest Washington.

The Open House will be followed by a lively Panel Discussion on the topic “Jim Crow Ideology on Our Quest for Equity and Inclusion”. The Panel will be hosted by Rev. David L. Reaves and Moderated by Frank Boykin. It will consist of community notables Nat Jackson, Merritt Long, Dr. Karen Johnson, and James Walton. A flyer for the Panel is attached.

The museum is a collection of exhibits and displays that include books, posters, magazines, newspapers, tapestries, quilts, photographs, sculptures, calendars, relics, and artifacts spanning several centuries to the present day.

Enjoy an exhilarating afternoon of education, reading, learning, and absorbing information about the lives, roles experiences, and contributions of Black people to American and World History.

Come and learn more about untold stories and information that have not been included in the current version of American history. Please share this invitation with family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, students, educators, and others who might have an interest in this mostly untold portion of history. Most of the museum will be dismantled on Sunday, February 19 at 1:30 p.m.
