Bus pad installation work has been extended on McCormick and Boundary streets between 4th and 5th avenues in Olympia.
Work crews are expected to be on-site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, July 31, to continue the installation of rear bus pads for Intercity Transit.
"The streets will reopen at the end of each workday. Minor delays are expected, and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible," said the City of Olympia Public Works Department in a construction and traffic alert.
Project inquiries should be made to Intercity Transit Construction Projects Coordinator Jeff Peterson at 564-233-8980 or Project Manager Bruce Waddell III at 253-228-6554.

It's hard to support the City of Olympia Department of Public Works doing this work. Is Intercity Transit providing the funds? What we need are functional sidewalks.

The bus pad installation is being done by Intercity Transit, which is a separate public agency. They have contracted for the additional bus pads all over the urban region.
The City of Olympia is not involved in funding this but we are all paying through federal, state, and local taxes.
The bus pads make is possible for people who use assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, etc, to access the bus. The bus can kneel or put out a ramp so that you can get on the bus without climbing a step. This provides important access for people who perhaps don't drive and can use the regular bus routes instead of Dial-a-Lift.
This bus pads also provide a clean space to wait for the bus instead of in grass or gravel.

Thank you for your explanation KarenM. I appreciate that the bus stops should be accessible. I tried to delete my comment when I realized I was in error. Speed reading has never been my friend.

I think this is a great investment. Intercity is an amazing option. I have used it before to go to events downtown when parking is going to be difficult or when I bike to work and the weather suddenly turns unsafe. "One Bus Away" is a great app to find schedules and routes across the Puget Sound area. It connects all the area transit options.
