Capitol pedestrian bridge work to begin next week in Olympia

Posted

Work on the removal of segments and rebuild of the Washington State Capitol Campus pedestrian bridge is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 10.

The work on the $1.2 million project is expected to continue through mid-October.

"The pedestrian bridge connects areas of the Capitol Campus and spans over Capitol Way S between 14th Avenue/Sid Snyder Avenue and 15th Avenue. Although most work will occur on campus property, there will be impacts to travel lanes in both directions along Capitol Way S," said the City of Olympia Public Works Department in a construction and traffic alert.

"During this period, the easternmost northbound lane and the westernmost southbound lane — along with the adjacent sidewalk — will be closed. Pedestrian detour signage will be in place and the contractor is coordinating with Intercity Transit to address impacts to nearby bus stops."

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the area and follow posted signage. The use of alternate routes is suggested, if possible.

It seems JOLT News is minimalist in their "reporting". Several recent "articles' have the bare minimum of information. leaving readers to try to search around on their own for pertinent, basic information, that any reader would have about the article. Why would you even put this out, with such little information? Pretty much every person reading this, would want to know, why do they need to rebuild this bridge? It's not that difficult...

I'm going to hazard a guess that it might have something to do with seismic stability concerns, or it reached a point of concern structurally? I know there was an article about a state building of similar era that workers have to limit time in for that reason. It makes sense to me given our earthquake history to prepare for the next big quake if that is the reason.
