The City of Lacey recognized its workforce last week during Employee Appreciation Week.
Employees were noted for 2025 accomplishments throughout city departments, with several people honored for hitting key service milestones.
City Manager Rick Walk, in a March 12 statement, said the week provided staff an opportunity to step back from daily routines, connect with colleagues, and reflect on the dedication they bring to serving the Lacey community each day.
Walk also noted the breadth of responsibilities handled by city employees within public safety, infrastructure, environmental protection and community services.
"The (city) is fortunate to have a workforce that cares deeply about our community.” Walk said. “The work happening across our city is something I'm proud of, and it's made possible by the passion, professionalism, and commitment of our staff. I'm grateful for our team and the difference they make for the people of Lacey.”
The city reported a range of accomplishments across departments in 2025.
The Lacey Police Department responded to 44,842 calls for service, while also operating a community resource unit and mobile outreach team connecting residents to services. Officers cultivated relationships in schools through a school resource officer program and hosted several community events.
Meanwhile, the Lacey Public Works Department maintained more than 287 miles of water and sewer mains, along with valves, pumps, lift stations and treatment systems. The department also managed the city's construction program and protected the water system and local groundwater supplies.
The Lacey Veterans Services Hub provided housing support for 610 clients and helped 3,608 veterans access services. Joint Animal Services covered 292,675 community members and launched an animal cruelty response team.
Lacey Community and Economic Development assisted more than 93 new businesses, supported affordable housing development and facilitated energy rebates for Lacey households. Staffers processed 2,770 permits and completed 4,055 inspections.
Lacey Parks, Culture & Recreation Department programs enrolled 821 children in day camp and organized community events, including the July 3 fireworks celebration.
The Finance Utility team managed billing for more than 27,000 water customers. Human Resources filled 68 full-time positions and implemented professional development programs.
Similarly, the Lacey City Clerk's team improved accessibility of council meeting materials on the public records portal.
The Communications team responded to more than 619 requests through Lacey Works and distributed information through Lacey TV77, newsletters, social media and the city's website.
In addition to departmental updates, the city also honored employees who reached career service milestones.
Marking 35 years were Accounting Technician Violet Clerget and Recreation Manager Sue Falash.
Lacey Police Department Patrol Officer Keith Mercer marked 30 years, while Project Inspector Kevin Cools and Utility Billing Specialist II Michele Mantle each completed 25 years.

Walk also reflected on the impact of the service milestones, saying the anniversaries are a testament to the dedication and commitment of the city's long-serving workforce.
"Their experience, knowledge and commitment have helped shape the organization we are today," he said. "We are grateful for the lasting contributions they have made to our community."
